Makati (/məˈkɑːti/ ⓘ mə-KAH-tee; Tagalog pronunciation: [mɐˈkaː.t̪ɪ]), officially the City of Makati (Filipino: Lungsod ng Makati), is one of the highly urbanized cities that make up Metro Manila, the capital region of the Philippines. Makati is a center for finance, commerce, culture, the arts and fashion, academics, and as the home to numerous diplomatic missions and embassies, is the center for the country's international diplomacy. With 432 high-rises and skyscrapers, Makati has the largest skyline in the Philippines, 138 of which exceed 100 m (328 ft). According to the 2024 census, Makati has a population of 309,770 people.[5]
The city covers about 18.17 square kilometers (7.02 sq mi), making it one of the smallest cities in the Philippines in terms of land area. It is bordered by Mandaluyong to the north, Taguig to the east, Pasay to the south, and the capital city of Manila to the west.
Because of people working in the central business district, Makati's daytime population swells to 3.2-4.2 million people.[6]
As of 2023, Makati has an estimated GDP per capita of ₱1,778,002, making it the highest GDP per capita in the Philippines.[7]
