Tunisia is a country in Northern Africa. Tunis is its largest city and capital, followed by Sfax. It is a member of the Arab League, United Nations and African Union.

Geography

Tunisia borders the Mediterranean Sea and it borders Algeria to the West, Libya to the East and it is near Malta and Italy to the North and Greece to the Northeast. Most of southern Tunisia is covered by the Sahara Desert. Majority of its people live in the coastal northern areas, which is where Tunis resides.

History

It was colonized by France, and gained its independence on the 20th March 1956.

French and Arabic are spoken majority in Tunisia.

People

Mostly Arabs[1], with some Berbers[2][3] and Jews on Djerba, a southern island. It has a median age of 76 years. it scores 70th in the Safety Index 2025[4], with 4.76 incidents per 100,000 people.[5]
