Video game appearances

In the game series, Clair's official title is "The Blessed User of Dragon Pokémon." She comes from a lineage of Dragon-type trainers and proclaims herself to be "the world's best dragon master," confident she could even challenge the Elite Four. Her only recorded loss prior to the player's arrival was against her cousin, Lance.

Upon being defeated by the player, Clair initially refuses to award the badge, instead requiring them to complete a "dragon user challenge."

In Pokémon Gold and Silver, the player must enter the Dragon's Den and find a Dragon Fang. Once the item is obtained, Clair appears and gives the player the Rising Badge.

In Pokémon Crystal, the challenge involves navigating the Dragon's Den to reach a shrine at its center. After the player completes this, Clair's grandfather compels her to award the badge, threatening to inform Lance of her behavior. She then gives the player the badge, telling them they must win at the Pokémon League, or her loss will feel worse.

Silver's demeanor while training in the Dragon's Den is similar to how Clair was in her youth. In all three games, Clair awards TM24 (Dragonbreath) alongside the badge.

Pokémon the Series anime

When Ash Ketchum and his friends arrive in Blackthorn City, they encounter a Dratini and a Gyarados in a river. They soon meet Clair and join her in following the Dratini, eventually rescuing it from Team Rocket. This Dratini later evolves into a Dragonair.

Clair's Gym battle with Ash is postponed while she performs a traditional Dragon Fang ritual. The battle is further interrupted when Team Rocket succeeds in stealing the Dragon Fang, leading Ash, Clair, and the thieves to the Dragon Holy Land. There, Team Rocket deceives a resident Dragonite into helping them. The situation is resolved with the timely arrival of Liza and Ash's Charizard. Afterward, Ash's Charizard battles and defeats Clair's team, earning him his eighth and final Johto badge.

Pokémon Adventures manga

In her first appearance, Clair was one of the Gym Leaders who challenged and lost to Suicune; the Legendary Pokémon defeated her by using Mist to create an illusion of itself.

During the Gym Leaders Challenge, she was scheduled to face Blaine. Clair was eager for this match, as her cousin Lance had disappeared after his battle with Blaine on Cerise Island, and she believed Blaine might have information. When a Team Rocket attack trapped the Gym Leaders on a bullet train, she forced Blaine into their duel. Blaine, with the help of Entei, defeated her quickly. This match contributed to the Kanto Gym Leaders' overall victory in the tournament, which concluded with a score of four wins, three losses, and one draw.
