Agatha, known in the Japanese version as Kikuko (キクコ) is a fictional character in the Pokémon video game series. She is the oldest member of Kanto's Elite Four and the third one players will face. Her English name probably comes from its similarity to hag, or Agatha Christie, the mystery writer. Agatha is an expert on Ghost Pokémon.
Background
Agatha, as mentioned eariler, is the oldest member of the Elite Four. She is a fierce competitor; in the Fame Checker, she says, "Don't you dare go soft like that coot Oak! Stay strong and keep battling!" A Pokémon Journal entry states that she and Oak were fierce rivals when they were young; Oak retired to his Pokédex, while Agatha moved up to the Elite Four.
In the Games
Agatha is a member of the Elite Four, and the oldest one to date. As such, she serves as an inspiration for senior Pokémon trainers all around the region. She uses Ghost-type Pokémon, and other Pokémon with horrifying appearances. In general, although she is said to be the master of ghost, she really is poison as all her pokémon are poison type where as only some are that of ghost due to the fact that there was 3 species at the time.
Agatha and Professor Oak were once friendly rivals in their youth, and it appears that Agatha may have once had a crush on Oak. However, their relationship has grown bitter and strained over the years because Agatha believes he was too weak to continue competing.
She has a very short temper and randomly switches her pokémon for no reason. This combined with all poison pokémon makes her easy to beat.
By the events of the Generation II games, Agatha is no longer a member of the Elite Four, and Bruno has assumed her position. Her absence was never explained; in fact, she is not mentioned at all. It is fan speculation that in the three-year gap between games, she either finally retired due to old age or died.

In the Anime
Agatha appears in Advanced Generation episode 132 - The Scheme Team as a temporary leader for the Viridian City Gym. Her anime appearance is loosely based on her appearance in Fire Red and Leaf Green. As in the games, she is a member of the Elite Four.
As Ash Ketchum returns from Hoenn, he passes through Viridian City, and finds the Pokémon Gym completely rebuilt. While in Viridian City, he meets Scott, an agent for the Battle Frontier, and Agatha, the temporary Leader of the reformed Gym. Agatha asks Ash if he's come for a Gym Badge, but since Ash already has the badge for this gym, they just fight for fun. The battle is a one on one battle between Ash's Pikachu and Agatha's Gengar in which, after a fierce fight, Gengar wins the battle. Agatha also has a Golbat which she uses while fighting Team Rocket.
She uses these Pokémon in the anime:
- Gengar
- Golbat
Misc
Agatha, like the other members of the Elite Four, had a revamp in her character design in the Generation III games Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. She is depicted as being taller, slightly younger, and her hair has changed color from grey to greying blonde.
Also, while she boasts to be an expert at Ghost Pokémon, all her Pokémon are at least part Poison in all of her appearances (except for her Misdreavus in Fire Red/Leaf Green and the Pokémon in the second round of Pokémon Stadium)
