Canary Wharf is a financial district in London, England, situated on the Isle of Dogs in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is considered part of London’s central business district, along with the City of London and the West End, and is one of the main financial centres in the United Kingdom. The district hosts the headquarters of several national and international banks and companies and features numerous high-rise buildings, including One Canada Square, the third-tallest skyscraper in the United Kingdom.[1]
The district was developed on the site of the former West India Docks in East London. It contains approximately 16,000,000 square feet (1,500,000 m²) of office and retail space. The area includes open spaces and gardens such as Canada Square, Cabot Square, Westferry Circus, Jubilee Park, and the Crossrail Place Roof Garden. Canary Wharf, together with Heron Quays and Wood Wharf, forms the Canary Wharf Estate, covering around 97 acres (39 hectares).
