Pokémon/Pokémon coordinator
< Pokémon
A Pokémon coordinator is a person who regularly participates in a Pokémon Contest in different cities. To be a Pokémon Coordinator, one needs a Pokémon, some skill at being a Coordinator, Pokéblocks or Poffins, a Contest Pass, and/or ribbon(s).
In seasons 6-9 in the anime, May (Haruka in Japanese) is a Coordinator who is keen to participate in every contest she can. May's rival, Drew, is also a Pokémon Coordinator. In season 10, Dawn has since taken May's place as the main coordinator protagonist.
List of Pokémon coordinators
- May - One of the main characters in the Pokémon anime. She is very interested in contests, and tries her hardest to win. She came in the top 4 in the Kanto league, losing to Solidad. She has got ten ribbons and cares for them very well. She has a brother named Max that she really cares about. She is very friendly towards her Pokémon and they have been friendly in return. In May's first episode, Ash (a Pokémon trainer) trashed her bike.
- Drew - One of the best Pokémon coordinators around. He is from LaRousse City. Even though he is May's rival, he does not like Harley cheating in contests by telling May techniques that don't work. He has a habit of giving her (or, as he claims, her Pokémon) roses after a contest, leading some to believe that he has romantic feelings for her.
- Ash - Ash, who usually isn't keen to participate in contests, has only appeared in two contests to date, once in an open Pokemon Contest in Kanto that ended up as a tie with May, and once after his Aipom showed interest in Pokémon contests. Ash later did enter Aipom in the Jublife City Pokemon Contest in Sinnoh along with Dawn. Both of them would end up losing to Zoey.
- Harley - A coordinator from Slateport City who always wants to cheat and take advantage of his opponents (for example, he tells May to do things that actually made the contest worse, for example in the Pokémon Advanced Battle episode Deceit and Assist). He also lends his Pokémon to Team Rocket so May will lose. He even dresses up like May in the Grand Festival in Kanto. He has a Cacturne, a Banette, an Octillery, an Ariados and a Wigglytuff.
- Robert - The coordinator who managed to beat Drew in the Hoenn Grand Festival. He has a Milotic and a Claydol.
- Solidad - A coordinator from Pewter City who beat Drew in his very first contest and defeated May in the Kanto Grand Festival. She has a Lapras, Slowbro, Pidgeot, and a Butterfree.
- Dawn - A new character from the Sinnoh saga who is interested in contests. Her mother was once a top coordinator. So far she has Piplup, Buneary, Pachirisu and a Ambipom.
- Zoey - Her Pokémon are Glameow,Shellos, and a Misdreavus. So far she has 2 contest ribbons.
- Kenny - He is Dawn's chidhood friend and rival. His Pokémon are a Prinplup, Alakazam and Breloom.
- Jessibella/Jessalina - Is actually Jessie in disguise, a member of Team Rocket who shortly, after arriving in the Hoenn region, decided to participate in Pokémon Contests. Initially, like Harley, she cheated to win at contests, but later she decided to compete more fairly. She never won a contest in Hoenn or Kanto. It wasn't until Sinnoh where Jessie won an unofficial contest with Aipom while it was still Ash's. She would then go on to win the Solaceon Contest with her Dustox.
- Kelly - A girl from Lilycove City who became one of May's rivals during a contest. Her family is in the Pokéblock-making business. She has a Grumpig.
- Nando - A wandering minstrel in Sinnoh who befriends Ash and Dawn. He is both a gym trainer and Coordinator, likely setting up battles with both Ash and Dawn later in Sinnoh. His primary type is the Grass type, however, it is known that he also possesses a Kricketune, a Bug type. He dresses rather oddly, wearing a brown cape and cowboy hat, sporting long black hair and carrying a golden Mew-shaped harp. Known as Naoshi in Japan.
