Pokémon/Groups/Team Magma

Team Magma are a group of thieves in Pokémon Advanced. They are a group of experts in the field of Geology and Plate Tectonics. Like Team Rocket, they are Pokémon thieves, but Team Magma specialise in the field of Fire Pokémon.

The Group all wear dark-red uniforms with a black "M" on their shirts. The head of Team Magma is Matsubusa (Maxie in the English version), but his 2nd in command is The Commander, named Homura (Tabitha in the English version). An other important member of Team Magma is Bannai (Brody in the English version), who owns a Ditto and is able to dress up like anyone he wants. Team Magma often use equipment that is normally used for experiments with high temperatures. They have no vehicles except the Commander's helicopter.

Team Magma are bitter rivals of Team Aqua. Though Team Magma does not exist outside the Hoenn Reigon, they do know the work of Team Rocket, who have no Hoenn branch there. Team Magma's main purpose is to erupt every active volcano (As well as revive dormant volcanoes) to wipe out the world with an enormous lava flow in order to have an enormous training ground for their Fire Pokémon. To that end, they'll awaken Groudon from its slumber.

Team Magma frequently make appearances in Pokémon Advanced, and are seen merely as "big bullies" rather than a proper archrival. They eventually disband after a battle between Groudon and Kyogre. It has been verified that neither Team Aqua nor Team Magma will be appearing in any future Pokémon episodes. Brody, however makes one final appearance after the dissolution of Team Magma.

Maxie is the Leader of Team Magma.

In the Games

Template:Cleanup-section In the Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald games, Team Magma is either good or evil. In Sapphire, Team Magma is good-natured, while in Ruby and Emerald, they are evil. In the latter 2 games, they seek to awaken the Pokemon Groudon, and use its powers to make volcanos erupt and thus expand the land mass.

In Ruby, Team Magma steals a Meteorite and attempts to use it to activate a dormant volcano, Mt. Chimney. Their plan is foiled by the player. Team Magma then steals a submarine and uses it to dive to the Underwater Cave where Groudon sleeps. Maxie travels to Mt. Pyre and steals the Blue Orb which can control Groudon. When the Blue Orb acts of its own accord, Groudon flees, and the Team Aqua leader Archie shows Maxie a world suffering from intense sunlight, more intense then Maxie intended. The player then travels to Sootopolis City and uses the Red Orb to awaken and subsequently battle Groudon, either defeating it or catching it. Afterwards, Maxie returns the Blue Orb to Mt. Pyre, and apologizes for his actions. With that, he leaves Mt. Pyre and is never seen again.

In Emerald, both Teams are evil, so the plot changes subtly. While in Ruby Team Magma's base is in Lilycove City, in Emerald it is hidden inside Mt. Chimney. The Team also attacks Mossdeep City and the Space Center, planning to steal the rocket fuel and use it to make the volcano erupt. The plan is foiled. Maxie, while expanding the Magma Hideout, has been recently digging and expanding their cave, and is reputed to have discovered something powerful. As with Ruby, Maxie steals the Blue Orb, and goes to the middle of the Magma Hideout, where Groudon is found. Groudon flees, and this is part 1 of a 2 part quest to awaken both Groudon and Kyogre. As the two fight both Maxie and Archie watch in horror, and both are confused as to why they cannot use their respective Orbs to control their respective Pokemon. After Rayquaza calms the two, Maxie and Archie return the Orbs to Mt. Pyre, and neither is ever seen again.
