Pokémon/Groups/Team Aqua

In the Pokémon world, Team Aqua is a group of thieves in the Hoenn Region. They specialise in the field of water Pokémon and maybe dark (in the Pokémon game, they mostly use Poochyena and Carvanha).

Team Aqua are based in a giant nuclear submarine out at sea, with a helicopter for land-to-sea travel. The team members all wear striped blue and white shirts with jeans. Their do-rags bear a white skull-and-crossbone in the shape of the letter "A". Unlike Team Magma, Team Aqua is run by a ruthless Commander. Shelly (Izumi in the Japanese version) is referred to as Team Aqua Leader, though the actual leader is Archie (Aogiri in the Japanese version).

Team Aqua are likened to a band of pirates and are experts in the field of oceanography as well as water Pokémon. They only exist in the Hoenn Region and do not reconize Team Rocket, unlike Team Magma. Team Aqua are the bitter antagonists of Team Magma and are currently in a brief war with each other. Team Aqua's main goal is to flood the world as a giant ocean for their water Pokémon. To that end, they will awaken Kyogre from its slumber.

Team Aqua is slightly more vicious than Team Magma, and has more females in its group. The Team Aqua Commander is a female herself, and their main thoughts about Ash Ketchum are not made clear, though she and the Team Magma Commander (who seemed to have a relationship of sorts with her once) do see him as a pest. Team Aqua are well-known in the Hoenn Region, and they often blackmail local fishermen into telling lies. It has been verified that neither Team Aqua nor Team Magma will be appearing in any future Pokémon episodes.

Team Aqua Leader Archie

Archie is the boss of Team Aqua.

English: Archie, French: Arthur, German: Adrian, Italian: Ivan, Spanish: Aquiles.

His English, French, German and Spanish names are similar to "Aqua". His Italian name derives from "Team Idro", the Italian translation of "team Aqua".

His Pokémon are Mightyena, Crobat, Sharpedo and Walrein. He is a ruthless villain who was once a friend of Maxie. But as his skills in Pokémon grew, so did his greed. He organized Team Aqua, an evil water Pokémon organization, to battle Team Magma for world control. In episode 374 -The Scuffle of Legends, Archie had absorbed the red orb into his body, gaining the power to control Kyogre, but the orb was expelled from his body later in the episode because Archie's body couldn't take the power strain of the orb. Archie commented later that he had no memory of the event and He and his Team Joined Lovrina, Team Cipher and Team Snagem in the Esipode 300 named The Great Kill.

In the games

In the Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald games, Team Aqua is either good or evil. In Ruby, Team Aqua is good, but in Sapphire and Emerald, they are evil. In the latter 2 games, they seek to awaken the Pokemon Kyogre, and use its powers to create tidal waves and rainstorms, and thus expand the sea mass.

In Sapphire, Team Aqua steals a Meteorite and attempts to use it to calm an active volcano, Mt. Chimney. Their plan is foiled by the player. Team Aqua then steals a submarine and uses it to dive to the Underwater Cave where Kyorge sleeps. Archie travels to Mt. Pyre and steals the Red Orb which can control Kyogre. When the Red Orb acts of its own accord, Kyogre flees, and the Team Magma leader Maxie shows Archie a world suffering from intense rainstorms, more intense then Archie intended. Using the Blue Orb, players then travel to Sootopolis City and battle Kyogre, either defeating it or catching it. Afterwards, Archie returns the Red Orb to Mt. Pyre, and is never seen again.

In Emerald,Team Aqua is evil, so the plot changes subtly. Team Aqua attacks a museum with the intent of stealing a submarine, but is foiled by the player. They later attack a weather institute to capture a Pokemon that can control the weather (this Pokemon is Castform). They are foiled again. As in Sapphire, they travel to the Underwater Cave and awaken Kyorge, who then travels to Sootopolis. This is part 1 of a two part quest to awaken both Kyorge and Groudon. As the two fight both Maxie and Archie watch in horror, and both are confused as to why they cannot use their respective Orbs to control their respective Pokemon. After Rayquaza calms the two, Maxie and Archie return the Orbs to Mt. Pyre, and neither is ever seen again.
