| Pokémon Adventures chapter | Battle Frontier Chap 1, "VS Sudowoodo" |
Emerald is a character in the Pokémon Adventures manga, a challenger in the Battle Frontier. He is an excellent battler and has proved it several times by defeating Factory Head Noland, Lucy, Brandon and Greta. He is also considered good at catching Pokémon, and for that Crystal has hired him to catch the legendary Jirachi. Despite his great interest in Pokémon battling, he claims to not like Pokémon very much. Since he got a Sceptile, Sudowoodo and Dusclops from the Battle Frontier, he seems to accept them more and more. He appears to be extremely short, and he is actually shorter than he looks. Under his long sleeved clothes he has high platform shoes, and he always holds a pair of external mechanical hands which he holds with his real hands. However, this is mostly tactical places to keep most of his capturing equipment, for example his platform includes several rows with different kind of Pokéballs. He also has a rare ability to calm Pokémon by making them remember their birthplace. He starts by spotting the Pokémon, and just by that he knows where it comes from. He then proceeds to pull out a small piece of ammo consisted by soil from the Pokémon's birthplace, and loads it into a special gun he carries. By shooting the ground the Pokémon is standing on, the feeling can calm the Pokémon in a matter of seconds. Noteworthy, he is the only character except Yellow who is not based on anyone from the Pokémon games, although a character appears in Diamond and Pearl with a somewhat similar appearance.
Emerald in Battle Frontier Saga
Emerald, being a renowned Pokemon catcher and trainer, is hired by Crystal, another expert catcher, to catch the legendary wish-granting Pokemon named Jirachi in seven days before another man named Guile Hideout could do so. To accomplish this, Crystal gives him some Pokemon to start with and sends him to Battle Frontier (where he also hopes to accomplish his dream of defeating all of the seven facilities in it). There, he meets and befriends two other Pokemon trainers, Ruby and Sapphire. Despite this, his mission for the Battle Frontier, Jirachi, is already caught by the sinister Guile Hideout, and Emerald must set out to rescue it.
In Part 2 of the saga, Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire take on the Battle Tower challenge, only to find out that the Frontier Brain of the Tower, Anabel, is possessed, as it is shown when she collapses from fatigue after defeating Emerald. Shortly after, Gold and Crystal come to Battle Frontier in order to defeat Guile Hideout, who is actually Archie, the leader of Team Aqua, in disguise. Also, what Emerald and his companions have no knowledge of is that at the end of the top room of the Battle Tower is Crystal and Gold's main object of rescue: the 5 petrified Pokemon trainers, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Silver. During the ruckus, Archie plans to flood the entire Battle Frontier by the use of a fake Kyogre and it's up to Emerald and the rest of the trainers to take on him and revive the statue Trainers!

Current Pokémon
- Sceptile was used in the Battle Pyramid and Battle Arena, and was stolen from the Battle Factory in chapter 5 of the battle frontier and later appears to be his Pokémon anyway since it was the Grovyle that was lost by Wally back at the Sky Pillar, which would explain why it keeps looking at Emerald's Pokedex.
- Sudowoodo was first used in the Battle Arena. It became one of Emerald's Pokémon in battle frontier chapter 15. Emerald calmed this Sudowoodo when he was on the way to the Battle Factory (It had gone mad since a reporter watered it accidentally).
- Dusclops was used in the Battle Arena in chapter 15. It was also calmed down by Emerald when Emerald completed his challenge against Lucy.
